God and Nature

Digg this

yesterday in a discourse on Spirituality a man referring to Hindu Mythology, told us this very interesting story from The Mahabharata, the Ancient Religious Epic of India.. Duryodhan and Arjun, "both planned a visit to Dwarka to solicit Lord Krishna’s assistance for the upcoming battle.. Upon knowing their intent of visit, Lord Krishna made it clear that his vast army would assist one side, while he himself would assist the other. He personally would not bear any arms nor would he take a direct part in the battle. Arjun still chose Lord Krishna over his mighty army. Duryodhan was very happy to have Krishna’s army on his side, as for him, Krishna without arms was not of much use in the battlefield. Later, Lord Krishna asked Arjun as to why he chose him, knowing that he will not fight in the war. Arjun disclosed that he was so certain that having Krishna on his side would mean victory for him. In our life too, we have to make a conscious choice whether to be like Arjun or like Duryodhan."

Everyone was laughing at the 'stupidity' of Duryodhan.. who chose an army over God.. and he looks at everyone.. smiles.. and says.. "it's funny isn't it.. we all want to be Arjun.. but we are all Duryodhans.. each one of us.." there was pure disbelief and amazement all around.. for there was no doubt in any heart that they would have made Arjun's choice.. and he says, "in our prayers everyday.. which one of us does not ask for everything but God's hand.. God's presence.. with them.." and there was silence all around.. and sheer amazement.. at this simplicity.. our comprehensions that know, believe and understand so much.. and our human nature that can't help the way it thinks and feels..

Relating it to simple Mathematics, he says.. God and Nature are two opposing forces.. due to the Gravitational pull.. each one of us has the 'instinct' to hold.. attract.. receive.. If God is everything contrasting to Nature.. then we have to 'untangle' everything 'natural' in us.. to reach him.. like wanting money.. riches.. name.. fame.. all come naturally to us.. but giving away our wealth.. name.. fame.. praise.. recognition of the 'self'.. all go against our Nature.. so in this search for God.. we are walking away from him.. depending on the path each has traversed.. 'retracing our steps back' is accordingly taxing and arduous..
