gilded cages

Digg this

where has progress got us.. our soul is still the only thing that lives on.. a soul starved and empty and wanting.. what legacy is this progress leaving.. our children have more fears and stress and confusion.. the tiny sparrow sings and flies free.. we have lost our music and wings.. it can escape our cages.. we can't see the door's open.

every child is a multi-faceted gem awaiting recognition.. sadly squashed in schools with studies as the only yardstick gauging self-worth and potential..

most of us seem to be feeling empty.. unhappy.. like something is missing.. having got into the 'rat race'.. we never really take time out to 'hear' what we want.. what we really want.. even if we are doing what we want in life.. our 'conditioning' rules our lives, setting the pace or direction as the norm..

if today we discard everything we own, have become, done so far.. and become who we want to be.. live the way we want to.. what difference is it going to make?.. to our life..

if we can just harness our thoughts, we can ride the world.. no conditioned blinkers.. just an acute seamless freedom.. filled with joy and exhilarating invincibility..

when we know our 'destination' we will somehow always find the way.. through a few wrong turns maybe.. or asking for directions.. but we will always reach there.. so let us 'talk' ourselves through clarity as to what we want or where we want to reach.. and we can start off to realize our dreams..

a man hid a bird behind his back, and asked the zen master if it was dead or alive.. thinking of killing it if he said alive, and releasing it if he said dead.. and the master replied, 'it's in your hands'.. this is how life is.. in our hands.. to live or die every moment.. to surrender or defy.. to realize.. it is always our choice..

a hammer shatters glass but forges steel.. life dishes it's own blows.. we decide the mettle it's going to glean..

The progress? the only thing that ha progressed is time my friend. Time that never be re-lived, accept in our minds, but never changes the today. The now that we live in will never be affected by the memories of yesterday, even if you edit them or completely reverse them in your mind. It is a common urge to change the past, even if only in our minds.

d

So what can yesterday's memories do for us? 'the glass is half full' people may say "it makes me smile"

'the glass is half empty' people say "it makes me frown"

Those are both valid answers, valid because it is a persons choice to either smile or frown today because of what happened yesterday. Today, yesterday, today, and tomorrow are arbitrary units of time. The are the past, the now, and the future.

So the answers can be restated in different measurements, or units in time. I have found that labeling the units of measure in time as last second, this second, and the second to cum is the units that some people need to see in order to not completely oppose any of my theories. Which is fine, units of measure do not affect the results when defining the outcome. These are the people who claim the only way to live content is 'to be in the now'

That is fine, I will not argue with those whose choice in the way they live their life does not affect my life and the way I choose to live mine.

However I must point out my views of my religion. That is that "yes" the way the past, our memories, affect today is our choice. I will also agree that the past will not change anything today in the now. So there is no point in wanting to change the past. Cause it doesn't in reality change anything in the now.

But here is where I make my distinction. Wanting to change the past can help. Futhur more, you bet your ass it change today. In fact clear and sober memories of the past and examination of what has happened is one of the only ways to change the now. How? because your are right to say that technically, it does no good right now. But it can I say. It can because in reflection you can make decisions to change the future. The past can in fact change tomorrow. Inevitably tomorrow will soon become today, this second, the now. Be here now.

Learn

Keep in mind that it technically is not learning if you don't put what is learned into use. That means to practice the lessons that you have learned.

no one can or should run away from their past.. but to 'live' in it imprisons one in a time-capsule.. as you so rightly put.. 'history' translates into a series of learning experiences, contrite or otherwise.. and it's major role in our lives is to move on.. with it.. to learn.. from it.. not to hold on.. or stay.. for a moment that is past.. can only be redeemed.. in the 'present'..
